| Our Story |
One Lemon’s goals are simple: to make beautiful products that are good for children, good to the environment, and good for the artisans who make them. Like the powerful goodness of a lemon, our business is based on the belief that just one drop – of inspiration, kindness, or great design – can make a big difference.
One Lemon was born out of inspiration when my husband, Jason, and I (Tamara) moved to Singapore. As we traveled throughout Asia, we fell in love with the natural aesthetic, were inspired by the local crafts tradition, and deeply moved by the people we met along the way – who, with a needle and thread, were able to craft a life of self-reliance and economic independence.
And so, as we prepared to move back to New York, we created a business that would tie us back to this special part of the world. Combining our professional backgrounds in philanthropy and business, passion for design, and humble desire to make a difference, we immersed ourselves in a world of handmade textiles. We design products we are proud to have in our home and excited for our own baby boy to use – products that are luxuriously soft, natural, and made with love.
Every One Lemon product is made with the highest quality materials. Our certified organic cotton comes from India, is made using natural elements like sea salt and the sun, and gets cozier with wear. Our vibrant luxury silks are made entirely by hand in Cambodia, born from the carefully nurtured mulberry bush, then delicately handspun into thread and meticulously handwoven into fabric.
At the heart of One Lemon are the special people who make our products. In line with fair trade principles, the artisans who create One Lemon goods are given a fair wage as well as services around personal finance, health, and education. The women who hand-embroider One Lemon’s Kids Collection do so from home, so they can earn a living while taking care of their children and household. We are proud to make a difference in their lives by working with them, and are inspired by the goodness they bring to each and every one of our products.
